Ballet
Pre-Primary and Primary Dance
These classes are for children aged 5 to 7 years. They are an introductory ballet class for our youngest girls and boys using natural movements, colourful props, and musical instruments. Together the teacher and children create stories inspired by their imagination and the music. As the levels progress, the content continues to emphasise natural movement developing them into simple ballet sequences.

Pre-Primary
Boys Ballet
This class gives boys aged 7 – 11 years the opportunity to learn classical ballet. Ballet technique develops strength, co-ordination, athleticism and musicality. Boys ballet is characterised by the dynamic energy of turns and the thrill of big jumps. Dance gives boys a sense of achievement and, teaches them how to stay focused, these are transferable skills – whether to the classroom or the football pitch!

Graded Levels - One to Eight
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus offers a progressive programme of ballet levels for all age groups, incorporating character dance. Students, if they wish, can prepare for RAD examinations.

Grade One Character Dance
Vocational Levels - Intermediate Foundation to Advanced
These classes are available to prepare for Royal Academy of Dance Vocational examinations. The Vocational Levels are designed for students who are considering a serious commitment as a dancer, teacher, or another capacity. Vocational classes are technically demanding and include Pointe Work.

Conditioning Classes - Grade Three and above
FirstSteps School of Dance believe all young people should be ‘fit’ to dance. Conditioning Classes are based on Pilates and ‘Progressing Ballet Technique’ of which Miss Espe is certified. This class encourages core strength, joint flexibility and muscular control.
Both Graded and Adult students can take this class in addition to their ballet class.

Repertoire - Grade Four and above
Students learn choreography from famous ballets. They will also gain an understanding of the history of ballet, music, set and costumes. With the wealth of knowledge and experience from all FirstSteps teachers, this is an important addition to our timetable.
